Creating a Property With Rental Units
How to add a property that has separate units inside it — an apartment block, a gated compound, anything with multiple doors to manage individually. Covers the full add-property wizard and a first look at the property card once it's created.

Step by step
Choose the property shape
From Properties, open Add Property (Full Wizard). The first question is what you're listing: a property with rental units (an apartment block or gated community with multiple units to manage individually), a standalone house or building (a single house or townhouse with no separate units inside), or land / a plot. Pick "Property with rental units" for anything you'll be dividing into individually-tracked units later.
Fill in the property details
Give the property a name and pick its type from the dropdown (Apartment Complex, and similar categories). A description is optional but helps staff and, later, prospective tenants understand the property at a glance.
Set the location
Search for the property by name or nearby landmark — Makeja pulls up a map and drops a pin. You can drag the pin to fine-tune the exact spot if the search result isn't precise. Once resolved, the city and county fill in on their own from the pin's location.
Add photos
Upload up to 8 photos of the property. This step is optional, but a property with real photos is easier for your team to recognize at a glance, and matters a lot more once you start listing units publicly.
Review and create
The final step shows everything you've entered for a last check before the property is created. Once confirmed, it appears immediately on your Properties list.
What you get on the property card
Your new property shows up as a card with its name, resolved address, type badge, and a running unit count (starts at 0 — you'll add units in a separate step). Below that: View Property (the full property page), Edit Details, Payments, Lease Contract Template, and Archive / Delete for managing the property itself. Adding actual units, assigning tenants, and configuring leases are covered in the tutorials that follow this one.
Tips
- Only "Property with rental units" gets a unit count and per-unit management — pick it even if you're only starting with one unit, since adding more later is easy but changing the property type after creation is not.
- You can always come back and edit the name, description, or photos later from Edit Details on the property card.
- The map pin is the source of truth for the property's location — if the address search gets it slightly wrong, drag the pin to the correct spot before continuing.
